Preveli beach, best known for the unique combination of the palm forest and the river that flows into the sea through the beach, is located in the south area of Rethymnon county and east of Plakias.

Elafonissi is a place of unique beauty, located 72kms southwest of Chania city. It's mostly known for the astonishing combination of the islet, the turquoise waters and the pink coloured sand. The sea level between the beach and the islet is very shallow, making this place even more special, giving you the impression that you are in a huge swimming pool. It's the most popular place of the island, so don't expect to find any isolation but nevertheless it's a must see place of you visit Crete. Kolokitha beach is located 10kms north of Agios Nikolaos and 3kms east of Elounda. To get there you have to drive from Akti Oloundos to the uninhabited Kalydon island. The road is not asphalted but well paved and there's a small open area where you can park the car. For the last 500m you have to walk to reach the beach. On the way to the beach you'll have the chance to visit the early christian basilica and some ancient roman ruins, as the area used to serve as a port. Don't forget to get water and some light food with you, cause there's no minibar on the beach. Have fun!Â
Elounda is one of the most popular tourist resorts on Crete island. Matala, in the past a small fishermen's village, nowadays a touristic resort and attraction is located 70kms southwest of Heraklion city. Mostly known from the 60's hippie commune and the imposing rockside full of carved caves. The beautiful pebbled beach is organized with umbrellas and along the coast there's a big variety of cafes, tavernas, restaurants and bars. Nightlife is vivid and during summer music festivals are held, attracting thousands of people around the globe. Accommodation is quite cheap, there are a lot of rooms to let, apartments , small hotels and a camping site. Close to Matala, you can visit the very unique Red beach if you follow the indicated trail and walk about 20 minutes. Enjoy!
